Green Square – North Tower
A vision of a greener future
The environmentally focused Green Square Project for Leighton Properties was the largest mixed use corporate office park developed in Brisbane in the last 15 years.
The Green Square development, an integral step in Brisbane City Council’s ongoing Urban Renewal Plan, comprises the earlier completed mixed-use South Tower, the newly built North Tower and a connecting plaza. The development was designed to accommodate over 40,000m2 of A-Grade commercial office space, hi-tech utility facilities, retail, restaurants and future childcare facilities.
Green Square North Tower included approximately 24,000m2 of office space over 12 levels, 600m2 of retail space with adjacent plaza area and two levels of basement car parking. Visual links between the main buildings, which accommodated the vast majority of the precinct’s population, was created through a vertical planted wall extending up the 12 storey western face of the North Tower building.
Upon completion of the construction phase, the Green Square North Tower was immediately occupied by four separate tenants over each of the 12 floors. These tenants comprised of a large Government Department and a selection of private companies.
Sustainable commercial construction
The building set a new benchmark for sustainable commercial construction in Queensland. While the South Tower received a 5-Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, North Tower has been awarded the 6-Star Green Star design rating, which signifies world leadership in sustainability.
