Annabelle Kissane is a site engineer working with the Woolloongabba site team. Annabelle grew up with a father who was a builder, so from a young age, she knew she wanted to be a civil engineer working in construction.

What’s the best thing about your job?

“The amazing people in our construction team and being able to work on one of the biggest projects in the state, while so close to home.”

What’s the best thing about being part of building Cross River Rail?

“Having a positive impact on Brisbane commuters for years to come. Knowing that we’re building something that will benefit so many lives is really satisfying.”


Daniel Christopher

Daniel Christopher

Daniel Christopher is a graduate engineer at Roma Street. He is a site engineer in the Roma Street team, and part of the CIMIC Group graduate program.

What’s the best thing about your job?

“I’m able to gain exposure to so many different areas of construction. As part of the Civils team, I am helping with the large scale demolition of Roma Street Station. Although there are many challenges associated with bringing down concrete structures in the middle of the CBD, being able to work with such a large professional team has assisted me greatly in being able to develop a better understanding of exactly what’s required to make this sort of project become a reality.”

What’s the best thing about being part of building Cross River Rail?

“To be a part of a project that involves so many different disciplines in construction can definitely be seen as a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity. I’m so grateful to only be in my fourth month as a graduate engineer and be able to say that I was involved with a project that literally transformed the way South East Queensland operates.”


Chris Edney

Chris Edney

Chris Edney is part of the crew and operates the roadheader. Chris has 25 years' experience in tunnelling and mining.

What’s the best thing about your job?

“The best thing is working in a team and the comradery. Every day is different with different challenges. I enjoy the challenges and trying to improve on what we have achieved the shift before.”

What’s the best thing about being part of building Cross River Rail?

“The best thing about working on Cross River Rail is that it is close to home and knowing that I will be able to take my family to see the finished tunnel.

“Working on the station cavern means that when the job is complete, we can visit the finished product and take a look around. Not like a road tunnel or the main tunnels where you just get to go through without stopping.”


Adam Wormald

Adam Wormald

Adam Wormald is a second-generation tunnelling apprentice, one of nine working with the Albert Street site team.  Adam grew up with a father who was a tunneller, however, initially started out in the childcare industry before transferring to work for CPB Contractors in the construction industry.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I love everything about my job. Love being part of the team. It’s basically like playing with Tonka trucks for a living!

What’s the best thing about being part of building Cross River Rail?

I like working on the biggest infrastructure project that Queensland has ever seen. I think it’s really going to put Brisbane on the map as far as becoming as world city!

“Being on site with the other workers and being able to help problem solve and build the project.”

“The job is interesting, and I’ve never worked on tunnels before. It’s also exciting to be part of an iconic Queensland project.”
