Congratulations to Emma McCaughey for being selected to participate in the 2021 Roads Australia Fellowship program. The program provides a unique professional development opportunity that matches industry ‘up and comers’ with senior leaders in the Australian infrastructure sector in a structured mentoring program.

With 16 years’ experience delivering successful civil projects across Australia and the UK including rail infrastructure/protection, oil and gas, mining infrastructure, road construction and tunnels, Emma is currently working as a Bid Manager in CPB Contractors’ Queensland and Papua New Guinea pre-contracts team.

“I’m passionate about my career and the projects I’ve worked on. It was both humbling and gratifying to be recognised within the company by being nominated and especially to be selected into such a highly regarded program.

“I’ve worked with a number of great people within CPB Contractors who have mentored and championed me through my career. Career development to me has always been about continued learning, including learning from others in the industry who have successfully navigated their career through both the ups and the downs which is why this program presents such a fantastic opportunity.”

Emma appreciates the process of mentoring and knows how important it has already been in supporting her career.

“On my very first job with CPB Contractors my manager was an inspiring female engineer who provided me with the right tools, direction and knowledge. She gave me confidence in what I could achieve, and where I should direct my focus to make my career a success.

“I am indebted to her for her willingness to openly share her experiences and guide me in the right direction and it is through this that I appreciate how important it is to support and champion young engineers, both male and female, in our industry.

“One of the things I want to get out of the Roads Australia Fellowship is to learn how to improve my own mentoring skills. I’ve found having a mentor or coach supporting me has assisted greatly and I want to return that favour to others within the industry.”
