The TasWater Bryn Estyn Water Treatment Plant Upgrade has been successfully delivered on time and under budget, by CPB Contractors in partnership with TasWater Alliance members, TasWater and UGL Limited. Supplying quality drinking water for around 200,000 customers each day in the greater Hobart area, Tasmania.
This future-focused upgrade has modernised water treatment processes introducing new technologies designed to reduce the need for water restrictions in Hobart following major rain events. The new plant features an increased capacity ensuring a reliable supply of 160 million litres of water daily to meet the needs of greater Hobart's growing population for the next 50 years and more.
Key achievements by CPB Contractors during the Bryn Estyn Water Treatment Plant Upgrade include:
- placing more than 2,800 tonnes of reinforced steel
- excavating more than 93,000 cubic meters of soil
- employing over 1500 people, the majority of who work for Tasmanian based businesses
- construction of a 160ML/day capacity water treatment plant – making it Tasmania’s largest with the capacity to be expanded to as required over time to supply an addition 40 ML/day when required.
CPB Contractors' collaboration with TasWater and CIMIC Group company UGL has been instrumental in driving the project to achieve full commissioning. Now completed, the Bryn Estyn Water Treatment Plant Upgrade is the largest capital works project in TasWater's history.
