Improving local, regional and national travel networks
CPB Contractors worked with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to deliver Stage 1 of the $497.3 million Mackay Ring Road project in Queensland.
Stage 1 of the Mackay Ring Road project is a quality, sustainable infrastructure solution that has enhanced travel efficiency and safety for motorists, and serves as a vital upgrade to the national road network.
We also focussed on maximising opportunities for local employment and delivering a socially-inclusive procurement strategy to broaden the community benefits of this significant roads initiative.
Our strategy delivered innovative and cost-effective projects for our clients, strengthened regional economies and better connected communities.
Stage 1 works included:
- An 11.3km highway to divert traffic from the Bruce Highway at Stockroute Road (west of Mackay) to the Bald Hill Road intersection (north of Mackay);
- 13 bridge structures;
- Two underpasses for local traffic; and
- Two dual lane roundabouts.
The Mackay Ring Road project has reduced the frequency of heavy freight vehicles and hazardous loads travelling through the city centre, and significantly improved the operation of local, regional and national road networks.
Stage 1 construction commenced in 2017 and was completed in 2019.
