Delivering Australia’s most advanced hospital

The new Royal Adelaide Hospital is Australia’s most advanced hospital and the single largest infrastructure project in South Australia's history.

The new hospital been designed to ensure all South Australians have access to state-of-the-art facilities that are resilient to the State's future health care needs.

The new RAH is located in Adelaide’s west end, alongside the new health and research facilities at the SA Health and Medical Research Institute.

It has 800 beds, including 100 same-day beds, and is South Australia’s greenest hospital, with numerous Economically Sustainable Initiatives incorporated into the design.

In early September 2017 the new RAH was officially opened to patients and it is estimated that 85,000 patients per year will be cared for at the new facility.

Additional features include:

  • 100% single inpatient rooms with opening windows, natural light and access to outdoor areas and green space.
  • 40 technical suites (operating theatres).
  • Gardens and open green spaces throughout the site providing spaces for relaxation and healing.
  • An underground car park with approximately 2,300 bays.
  • A commercial precinct, including a creche, mini-mart, restaurant, cafes and gymnasium.

Construction milestones include:

  • Topping out of the concrete structure - September 2014.
  • Architectural and functional design completion - December 2014.
  • High Voltage infrastructure completion with the connection of two 66Kv supply feeds from South Australian power networks to the site substation - December 2014.

The Hansen Yuncken CPB Contractors Joint Venture (HYLC) designed and constructed this landmark project.
