Industry-leading results to help protect our environment
Two high profile CPB Contractors infrastructure projects have received coveted sustainability awards from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA).
ISCA has awarded its highest Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating, ‘Leading Rating’ As Built, to the Furlong Main Blackburn Heatherdale Level Crossing Removal project in Melbourne, which was completed this year.
And in Sydney, the WestConnex New M5 project has received a ‘Leading Rating’ for the way in which it approached the design phase of the project.
CPB Contractors Group Manager Sustainability David Fox said: “Both projects have demonstrated our commitment to sustainable outcomes by delivering superior sustainability results when compared to the industry, including some Australian firsts.”
Sustainability outcomes include:
Furlong Main Blackburn Heatherdale (FMBH)
- Use of a polymer-based ‘Trinet’ drainage blanket instead of a conventional crushed rock drainage layer to deliver time and material savings.
- Photovoltaic arrays and water recycling to reduce overall energy use by 47% and water use by 65%.
WestConnex New M5
- LED lighting in the tunnel interior to achieve a 70% reduction in energy.
- Use of energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems to reduce overall energy use by 34%.
- Drought tolerant planting to reduce overall water use by 41%.
