From Site Engineer to Assistant Project Manager: Pooja Goswami's career journey so far

Pooja Goswami’s career at Broad Construction is a testament to how dedication, tenacity and a collaborative approach can set you up for growth.

Joining Broad Construction in 2018 as a Site Engineer, Pooja’s quick thinking, exceptional skills, and strong work ethic have seen her play pivotal roles in delivering a raft of complex projects, including the Casuarina Prison Expansion and Sam Kerr Football Centre project. Currently, Pooja is the Assistant Project Manager on Western Australia’s Cannington Train Station project, which is part of the Armidale Line Upgrade project.

Reflecting on her journey so far, Pooja shares, "My favourite project to date has been the Casuarina Prison Expansion Project. Working in a high-security environment and managing a team of 150 people was a great experience for me. We had a dynamic team, and as Project Engineer, I was given many opportunities to push myself, which I'll always be grateful for."

When she returned to work after parental leave, Pooja took on the role of Senior Project Engineer on the Sam Kerr Football Centre project. Her contribution here was invaluable, and she says that the Broad Construction team supported her as she juggled new responsibilities, both personally and professionally, which enabled her to take on additional tasks and ensure project success.

Pooja is proud to be an engineer and to excel in a field traditionally dominated by men. She advocates for increasing female participation across the sector and actively leads initiatives across Broad Construction to create a more inclusive and equitable environment.

“When I started my construction career in Australia, I only had one female to look up to. She was fearless and confident and inspired me to build my career relying on the facts,” says Pooja.

“Today, I sit on a project team with seven females whom I hope I can inspire and mentor the same way she did with me. I take this responsibility very seriously and hope I can do my bit to develop the next generation of female construction professionals.”
