From today, patrons journeying to and through Sydney’s CBD will now be able to commute using Sydney Metro’s brand-new Gadigal Station.
Delivered by CPB Contractors as part of the Sydney Metro Sydney Metro City & Southwest project, the now complete Integrated Station Development (ISD) features a 250-meter-long underground station running from Park Street to Bathurst Street, between Pitt and Castlereagh Streets. Gadigal’s platforms sit between 17 and 20 meters below city streets and can be accessed using two entrances, Park Street to the north and Bathurst Street to the South.
CPB Contractors Delivery Director Scott Knight credits the state-of-the-art station to the more than 10,000 people who worked to bring the project to life.
“Our team approached the delivery of this important station with a genuine desire to form and nurture positive partnerships—and we’ve worked closely with many local businesses, suppliers, and service providers.”
During construction, CPB Contractors worked almost exclusively with local suppliers and service providers and spent over $24 million with Indigenous and Social Enterprise businesses.
Through CPB Contractors’ own in-house programs and academies, as well as state programs, the delivery of Gadigal Station has also been the catalyst for more than 5,000 hours of workforce training and has given more than 100 trainees, apprentices and graduates the opportunity to build their skills while contributing to the biggest urban rail project in Australian history.
“I know our team is looking forward to following the legacy the delivery of this training will leave in the community… There are so many people who’ve not just built this great station but who have also developed new skills and capabilities,” adds Scott.
Supporting these people is CPB Contractors’ tools, technology and innovative approach, which has enabled a raft of impressive sustainability outcomes, namely, its award of a 6-star design rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
Over 10,000 people contributed to the completion of Gadigal Station, and the group boasts a compelling raft of achievements, including the installation of:
- 14 escalators and 5 lifts
- 470 façade panels weighing up to 11 tonnes each
- 27 kilometres of aluminium steel pipes
- More than 1,700 locally sourced sandstone panels with a combined weight of more than 200 tonnes
Along with bringing this new Gadigal Station to life, CPB Contractors with partners including fellow CIMIC Group companies UGL and Pacific Partnerships, has delivered Sydney Metro’s Line-wide works, Sydney Metro City & Southwest Tunnel and Station Excavation, and Sydney Metro Northwest’s Tunnels and Station Civil Works.
