Trifecta of awards at 2024 CareerTrackers Galas

Excellence and achievement have been showcased at CareerTrackers’ recent Gala Awards, held nationally across Australia. These events celebrate the excellence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals within their communities and saw two CPB Contractors team members and a partnering intern receive awards.

In Queensland, CPB Contractors congratulates Sigi Beschel, a Torres Strait Islander and Engineering Undergraduate, on the Cross River Rail (CRR) project. Sigi was awarded the Queensland CareerTrackers Intern of the Year Award, which acknowledges his commitment beyond his studies and highlights his dedication to his community and exceptional work ethic. Presenters on the evening made special mention of how Sigi serves as a role model to Indigenous youth, inspiring them to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.

Equally deserving of recognition is Matt Thomas, Sigi's direct manager and Senior Project Engineer on CRR, who received the Queensland CareerTrackers Intern Manager of the Year Award. This award acknowledges Matt's commitment to fostering a supportive and knowledge-sharing environment, which Sigi himself credits as instrumental in his achievements.

In South Australia, CPB Contractors congratulates Emilee Pyrke, an Aboriginal intern studying Aboriginal Culture at the University of South Australia who was celebrated with a CareerSeekers Project Excellence Award. As part of her third internship with CareerTrackers, Emilee worked with a South Australian CPB Contractors project team, playing a pivotal role in creating a storytelling resource that integrated First Nations culture and knowledge with project milestones and deliverables.

For over a decade, CPB Contractors has been collaborating with CareerTrackers, a nationwide organisation that assists pre-professional Indigenous university students and connects them with employers to engage in paid, multi-year internships. During this time, more than 340 Indigenous students have participated in the program with great success.
