CPB Contractors is proud to announce the completion of the new dual-lane, northbound section of Augusta Highway between Port Wakefield and Lochiel in South Australia. This major infrastructure upgrade significantly improves traffic flow, reduces congestion, and enhances both safety and freight efficiency along this critical regional route.
As part of the Port Wakefield to Port Augusta (PW2PA) Alliance, the newly constructed northbound lanes are now operational, while the existing lanes have been converted to southbound-only traffic towards Port Wakefield. This development is essential for a section of highway that transports more than 3,600 vehicles daily, including 1,100 heavy vehicles. On peak public holidays and long weekends, traffic volumes can double.
Key project highlights include:
- Over 1 million tonnes of pavement material and 40,000 tonnes of asphalt laid
- Installation of 80 stormwater crossings, 13 culverts, 12 new streetlights, and 9 kilometres of safety barriers
- The project supported the creation of more than 300 jobs throughout its duration.
The Augusta Highway Duplication project has been delivered through the PW2PA Alliance, comprising CPB Contractors, Aurecon, GHD, and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.
This development marks a significant milestone in improving road infrastructure, enhancing regional connectivity, and supporting the efficiency of South Australia’s freight network.
CPB Contractors is proud to contribute to the ongoing development of essential transport infrastructure in the region.
