CPB Contractors signs LOI for New Dunedin Hospital in New Zealand

CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors has signed an Letter of Intent to construct the New Dunedin Hospital Inpatients building for Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora.

The New Dunedin Hospital Inpatients building will be New Zealand’s largest hospital project to date, with CPB Contractors to construct an eleven-storey efficient and patient-centred hospital, which will deliver 371 beds on opening and 58 emergency department spaces.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaría said: “We’re proud to be delivering this landmark health facility for the South Island. The New Dunedin Hospital Inpatients will provide modern, purpose-built infrastructure that supports the delivery of world-class healthcare – now and for generations to come. It reflects our commitment to building resilient, community-focused assets that improve lives and support long-term wellbeing.”

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said: “Having successfully delivered award-winning major hospital facilities across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, CPB Contractors has the industry leading expertise to safely deliver this project. Our NZ-based team will ensure we maximise the economic, employment, training and social opportunities for the local people and businesses of Dunedin.”

CPB Contractors General Manager New Zealand Paul Corbett said: “The delivery program we’ll follow to construct this landmark health infrastructure project has been designed collaboratively with our local supply chain here in New Zealand. The knowledge they shared as part of our extensive consultation process has been incredibly valuable in planning this major project and their feedback will ensure that this important project delivers not only health infrastructure to the Dunedin community, but creates long-term economic value and opportunities for businesses in the South Island.”

Construction will commence in July 2025 with completion slated for late-2030.
