Creating a more sustainable future for construction

As Australia’s leading contractor, CPB Contractors is focused on driving sustainable outcomes in everything we do, and that means constantly innovating to explore new ways to progress the decarbonisation agenda that can be adopted across our industry.

And now, we’ve taken major strides in our ability to influence positive change by launching our Sustainability Playbook. The playbook highlights how our suppliers and subcontractors can help us construct a more sustainable future - and shows how we are applying innovative thinking and delivery methodology to create a better way.

The new playbook outlines CPB Contractors’ environmental sustainability goals and invites its partners to contribute to the decarbonisation journey to help mitigate the impacts of climate change.

David Fox, Group Manager Sustainability, says the new playbook is testament to the leading position CPB Contractors plays in driving sustainable outcomes across the construction industry.

“We believe that what’s good for our team, the people who work with us and our environment is also good for our community, our industry and our future,” says David. “However, we can’t deliver sustainable outcomes alone – we’re stronger when we partner with our subcontractors and suppliers to drive results together, on every project and at every opportunity. That’s why we’re encouraging subcontractors and suppliers to work with CPB Contractors to make a tangible difference.”

A fitting example of where CPB Contractors has worked collaboratively to deliver sustainable solutions is our commissioning of the first hybrid power system at its site compound in Aldinga, as part of Fleurieu Connections Alliance’s delivery of the Main South Road Duplication Project - Stage 2.

A new emissions-reducing 20-kW solar array significantly reduces the use of diesel across the project. It’s fully charged by the sun, with its energy then stored in an on-site battery that can be conveniently accessed as required, regardless of the weather, to power plant and equipment. A milestone for South Australia, the solar array is part of CPB Contractors’ goals to minimise waste, emissions, and the environmental impacts of construction across all our operations.

“Projects like this are just the start. I am excited about how we can work with our partners to continue to push the envelope in creating greener solutions for the communities we work within,” says David. “And the Sustainability Playbook will help get us there by encouraging our partners to join us in making a difference.”
