At CPB Contractors, our commitment to investing for innovation is changing the way we deliver our projects for the better. And now, thanks to our digital transformation including Integrated Digital Delivery, this includes emerging aviation technologies.
“With digitization and new digital tools, we gain competitive advantage by using technology in delivering projects,” says Dave Richey, Group Manager, Survey.
“The benefits that using drones can bring to projects includes improving data quality, making it available more quickly, and being able to visualize that information. This technology can also reduce physical risks by reducing interfaces of people and work sites.”
Bryce Hoffman, Survey Manager on NEWest Alliance, says drones allow his team to capture more ground and to quickly and accurately progress tracking of civil works, using fewer resources. “This improved safety, saved us time and money and allowed the construction team to get necessary information quickly and clearly.”
Drone’s data can be used by designers and construction teams and is accessible by all business units, which means we can monitor and validate clearing and confirm zero contamination. Plus, the community team can assess and manage any works that may impact residents and businesses.
Kevin Gonzales, Senior GIS Survey Analyst, says drones were deployed on M12 to perform bi-monthly aerial surveys. “They were equipped with high-resolution cameras that quickly capture a site’s aerial imagery and data, allowing teams to monitor progress, conduct site inspections, and assess conditions - without manual surveys.”
Outputs from drone technology can also generate 3D models and topographic maps, providing engineers with a clearer understanding of terrain, calculations and project progress.
Max Godley, Group Manager, Digital Engineering and Innovation, says drone imagery can allow us to produce 3D Reality mesh, hosted in BIM applications for as-built elements like bridges and structures. “The sky’s the limit with this technology.”
