Meet Systems Manager Emma Eveleigh!
Emma plays a key role in expanding opportunities for careers in construction. Most recently, she championed the development of our Student Engagement Guide, which helps ensure that every CPB Contractors project, regardless of scope or location, can make a meaningful contribution to growing and diversifying the industry talent pool.
Emma identified that students in Years 8 and 9, where subject choices begin to shape meaningful career pathways, were not often targeted in school engagement activities.
"Existing efforts focused on primary school, senior high school, and university events. I saw middle school events as a timely opportunity to influence career decisions and shift perceptions among students, parents, and educators, about the viability of construction as a career for women and men," Emma says.
Emma has a passion for making a difference and is a member of CPB Contractors' Women’s Advisory Board (WAB). She led the development of the Student Engagement Guide with members of the NSW/ACT Women in Construction Committee (WIC). Endorsed by NSW/ACT General Managers, the guide is now being rolled out nationally.
The guide assigns responsibility to initiate engagement with local education providers to a Student Engagement Coordinator, supported by Project Directors. Its resources include templates, presentation materials, engagement options and surveys. By involving female and male project team members in the engagement activities, students can more easily visualise a future of equal opportunities in the construction industry. Connecting with local communities and leaving a legacy in this way is a great source of pride for our teams.
Emma has also played a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of CPB Contractors’ first Corporate Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP), undertaking initial investigations into national partnerships and in-house engagement initiatives across the company.
