“The New Dunedin Hospital is life changing for the people of Dunedin and the South. There’s a real sense of pride to be working on this project and I see it as an opportunity to give back to this community, so it’s very close to my heart.”
Born and bred in Dunedin, CPB Contractors Project Manager Jason Tutty has worked in New Zealand’s construction industry for more than 25 years. With the New Dunedin Hospital project, one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country’s history, Jason is excited to leave a lasting legacy for the people of Dunedin.
“The new hospital will be world-class and will serve people beyond Dunedin, more broadly from the Waitaki River South, including Central Otago. It is also going to benefit the Otago region economically and CPB Contractors is committed to leaving a legacy for the people of the South far beyond the delivery of the project. I look forward to focusing on that, ensuring we maximise employment, procurement and partnership opportunities to support the growth and development of local industry.”
As project manager, Jason’s core role centres around the day-to-day planning of the project, overseeing the safe delivery of each element across the various phases of construction. However, Jason sees the value of his role being more than that and is looking to capitalise on the scale and profile of the project to attract more people to construction, and to provide mentorship, training and career development programs throughout the project to help build a sustainable and resilient workforce in Dunedin.
“This is an incredibly important project for the people of Dunedin. Working closely with Health New Zealand, it’s my responsibility to ensure we are engaging with community to bring key stakeholders, including local Iwi, groups and people, particularly young people looking for new career opportunities, along the journey.
“Having spent the last 25 years working on projects across the South Island and particularly in Dunedin, I am really excited to build on the strong relationships I’ve established with subcontractors and wider communities to create meaningful partnerships, and to maximise the value of the project as a learning platform for the supply chain, students, engineers and young trades coming up in the industry.”
