From design to construction, CPB Contractors is focused on delivering environmentally responsible, resource‑efficient projects that will enhance people’s lives for generations to come. Driving this commitment, our Plants and Assets team has been developing its own fleet of sustainable “EcoPro” power solutions, purposefully designed to meet the power needs of our projects, improve how major infrastructure projects operate, and significantly reduce energy use and diesel emissions.
With more than 18 years’ experience working across CPB Contractors and the CIMIC Group, NSW/ACT/NZ Plant and Asset Manager Wade Rogan has consistently challenged conventional approaches to plant and asset management. He recognised early the risk of sustainability solutions failing when they add cost or complexity without delivering tangible value to projects. In response, Wade has applied a trades‑based, problem‑solving mindset to develop in‑house solutions that reduce emissions, improve efficiency and deliver measurable financial benefits.
In 2024, CPB Contractors launched EcoPro Site Facilities, our first zero‑emission, self‑sufficient mobile site office, purposefully designed and built by Wade and his team. The 100% renewable‑powered EcoPro Site Facility is easily transported and mobilised on both regional and metro projects and leaves no environmental footprint behind.
Following its success, Wade and his team have continued to expand the EcoPro suite, including the development of EcoPro Hybrid Power Systems (HPS) featuring integrated carports and site shelters. These containerised solar and battery system assets were specifically designed to address site footprint constraints while delivering exceptional fuel and emissions reductions and are rapidly deployed without ground works or complex installation.
Currently deployed on projects across the country, EcoPro sustainable power solutions demonstrate that sustainable innovation can enhance project performance rather than compete with it, delivering massive reductions in diesel consumption, emissions, and noise.
With the full mobilisation of 14 purposefully designed EcoPro systems, CPB Contractors is scaling this impact significantly. The expanded fleet comprises six 20ft EcoPro Mobile Site Facilities that completely remove the need for diesel power, alongside eight high-capacity EcoPro Hybrid Power Systems that are replacing standard in-place generators (ranging from 30kVA up to 125kVA). In the HPS setup, the solar and battery systems handle the heavy lifting of continuous site power 24/7. This relegates the integrated diesel engines to function strictly as smart, automated backups that only engage during extended weather events - effectively slashing their traditional runtime by over 98%.

The cumulative impact of this mobilisation is substantial, delivering environmental and commercial benefits on a massive scale. Once fully operational, this single fleet of 14 assets will eliminate the consumption of over 791,000 litres of diesel annually, the equivalent of removing the fuel consumption of more than 400 standard passenger vehicles for an entire year.
Commercially, this represents more than $1.74 million in direct fuel cost savings* each year. Environmentally, the total removal and reduction of generator runtime prevent over 2,138 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere annually, which delivers a carbon reduction equivalent to planting more than 35,000 tree seedlings and growing them for a decade.
With multiple options available in the market, Wade recognised the shortcomings of existing products that were limiting project uptake. He set about creating full‑solution plant assets that are both operationally viable and commercially sound, supported by a pilot‑first strategy to ensure compliance and real‑world validation of performance.
Wade Rogan explains: “As a leading contractor, we deliver some of the largest and most complex projects across a wide range of environments. The size and scale of our work mean we have a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with how these projects are delivered. CPB Contractors is always encouraging its people to innovate and seek new ways to deliver projects more efficiently and achieve better outcomes for the communities and environments in which we work. These EcoPro assets have the potential to be a game changer — not only for CPB Contractors, our partners and clients, but for our industry and for regional businesses and communities.”
He adds: “Project teams often work in high‑pressure environments with restricted resources, limited space and tight programmes, so we focused on developing sustainable off‑grid assets that are reliable, durable and easy to transport, mobilise and pack down by any individual on any project site.”
Through Wade’s leadership, CPB Contractors’ Plant and Assets business has evolved beyond maintenance into a strategic contributor to project delivery, demonstrating that practical innovation can create lasting value for industry, communities and the environment.
