At CPB Contractors, our partnership with CareerTrackers is about more than internships - it’s about building capability, confidence and long-term careers for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Cadet Engineer Jenna McLauchlan is one of those future leaders.
Studying electrical engineering, Jenna initially had her sights set elsewhere. When a preferred internship pathway didn’t eventuate, she explored other opportunities and discovered CPB Contractors through CareerTrackers.
That decision changed her trajectory.
Placed on Victoria’s landmark Suburban Rail Loop project - connecting Melbourne’s suburbs through new underground rail lines - Jenna was exposed to civil engineering on one of the state’s most significant infrastructure builds.
“When I first started, I had no idea what I was doing. My team was incredibly welcoming and happy to answer every question. Through that support, my knowledge grew and so did my confidence.”
Today, Jenna is considering a future as a site engineer - a shift she attributes directly to her experience on project.
For CPB Contractors, this is what the CareerTrackers partnership is designed to achieve:
- Exposure to real projects
- Meaningful mentorship
- Genuine career pathways
When asked what she would say to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students considering construction, Jenna’s response is simple and powerful:
“Go for it. If you put your mind to it, you can get to where you want to go. There are so many people who will support you. Just follow what you believe — and you’ll get there.”
CPB Contractors is proud to stand alongside CareerTrackers in creating opportunity, strengthening representation, and building a construction industry that reflects the communities we serve.
Because building infrastructure is important. Building futures is essential.
