CPB Contractors as part of TasWater Alliance team continues to demonstrate deep capability in complex water infrastructure delivery through the $380 million Selfs Point Sewer Transformation Project in Tasmania, jointly funded by TasWater and the Tasmanian Government.
The modernised wastewater network will support the Hobart's growing population while helping to protect the health of the Derwent River system. Once complete, the upgraded facility will be able to treat up to 25 megalitres of wastewater per day - creating capacity for an additional 28,000 homes over the next 30 years.
In 2025, the team delivered substantial construction outcomes that reflect the collective expertise of CPB Contractors working alongside UGL, and in close partnership with TasWater.
· More than 6,500 cubic metres of concrete poured, and 2,500 tonnes of reinforcing steel installed to support modern treatment facilities capable of processing up to 25 megalitres of wastewater per day - the equivalent of 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
· Significant progress at Macquarie Point, with the new 12-metre-deep holding tank now more than 70 per cent complete, including excavation, piling, base slab construction, and mechanical installations.
· Delivery of key sections of the 4.3 kilometre sewer pipeline connecting Macquarie Point to Selfs Point, now more than halfway complete and advancing through complex urban interfaces. By streamlining the operation of these two plants into a single facility, nitrogen and phosphorus will be removed in the tonnes, improving the marine health of the Derwent River every year.
· Construction of a new emergency outfall pipeline, which forms one of the final components in modernising the Selfs Point system for long-term resilience and environmental performance.
TasWater General Manager Project Delivery Tony Willmott said the project is one of the most significant investments in the utility’s history.
“Reaching the 50 per cent mark is a major project milestone and is a reflection of the hard work happening on the ground every day,” said Tony.
“With our trusted partners UGL Limited and CPB Contractors, along with the local contracting market, TasWater is building a state-of-the-art treatment facility capable of processing up to 25 megalitres of wastewater daily, safeguarding the River Derwent while meeting Hobart’s future growth needs.”
