CPB Contractors were awarded the $192 Million C-17 Maintenance Facilities, Aircraft Apron and Associated Infrastructure Project in 2015, with completion achieved in 2019. The project at RAAF Base Amberley in Queensland was delivered using Defence’s two-stage Managing Contractor form of contract.
The project involved planning and delivering various facilities to support the introduction of the C-17 Globemaster aircraft, including:
- Upgrade of the base Central Emergency Power Station (CEPS) to increase the generating capacity from 6.4 MW to 11.4 MW.
- 100,000 m² (40,000 m³) of rigid (concrete) aircraft pavement for eight C-17 aircraft, including earthing points, line marking, security cameras, hi-mast lighting, apron edge lighting, lead-in taxiway lighting and an in-ground aviation fuel hydrant refuelling system.
- A 4,900m² column free hangar for the operational maintenance of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft, sized to accommodate a single KC-30A aircraft, with a telescopic (or flying carpet) docking system.
- A specialised Explosive Ordnance Pallet Build Facility (EOPBF) designed in strict accordance with the Defence eDEOP101 publication.
