Brisbane City Council awarded CPB Contractors (formerly Broad Construction) the contract to deliver the Emily Seebohm Aquatic Centre in Bracken Ridge, approximately 20km northwest of Brisbane’s CBD. The project was delivered under a construction-only contract and was completed in 2016 – three weeks ahead of schedule.
Open public tenders for the project were called in late 2014. Through several value management sessions, and drawing on previous experience, including the successful delivery of Colmslie Reserve Aquatic Centre, the Council awarded Broad Construction the works in early February 2015.
Key features of the facility include:
- 25m, six-lane heated outdoor pool with accessible ram
- 25m heated indoor pool with accessible ram
- Change rooms with showers and toilet
- Large grass leisure area and shaded seating
- Car park, café, kiosk, and supporting service
CPB Contractors’ Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) enabled close collaboration with the client and design team through value management workshops. This process led to an alternative structural solution, rationalised landscaping, and like-for-like finishes that delivered cost efficiencies while maintaining design intent.
Prior to construction, CPB completed early works including:
- Modifications to reconfigure an existing animal shelter
- Site remediation to achieve ‘Public Open Space’ status following the discovery of unforeseen ground conditions
