CPB Contractors delivered the second and final phase of the NZ Transport Agency project, the State Highway 2 Baypark to Bayfair Link in Tauranga.
The project supported economic growth in the region by improving the route to the Port of Tauranga and creating a safer and faster roads network.
The team focused on delivering an efficient and effective works program using proven traffic management and innovative construction methodologies to minimise disruption and maximise safety for road users. Our track record for delivering major road projects placed CIMIC Group and CPB Contractors in a strong position to deliver the upgrade of Tauranga’s eastern corridor.
Our approach stipulated increased opportunities for local workers and businesses, in addition to socially ethical partnering arrangements.
Design and construct work included:
- building two flyovers, directing State Highway 29A traffic over the East Coast Main Trunk Rail and Te Maunga intersection; and directing State Highway 2 traffic up and over the Maunganui-Girven roundabout
- upgrading the existing Maunganui-Girven intersection
- replacing the Te Maunga roundabout with an elevated interchange
- improved walking and cycling connections between Baypark and Bayfair.
Construction commenced in 2017 and completed in 2020.
The NZ Transport Agency delivered the project on behalf of the New Zealand Government.
