CPB Contractors was selected by the Victorian Government to deliver the South Gippsland Highway upgrade.
The project was funded by the Victorian and Australian governments and involved an upgrade of the highway between Koonwarra and Meeniyan in regional Victoria.
The upgrade included the construction of a new 2.9-kilometre highway, which shortened the existing route by one kilometre and removed nine dangerous bends, two four-span bridges, each 140 metres long, and a 60-metre-long underpass beneath the new highway. It also involved the realignment of the highway to improve driver safety and provide more reliable passage.
With a commitment to innovation, key features included the use of drones and cloud-based software for accurate surveying and quantity calculations, real-time geotechnical monitoring using piezometers, inclinometers, and extensometers to manage complex geological conditions, and Bluetooth traffic control technology to safely manage live traffic remotely, improving efficiency and reducing risk.
CPB Contractors is committed to work closely with local communities and the Victorian Government to deliver these important upgrades safely and efficiently.
During construction phases, the safety of workers and all road users is prioritised. This focus is enhanced by technologically enhanced traffic and road infrastructure management.
Working with local businesses enables CPB Contractors to create local jobs and maximise economic return for the community.
Work was completed in 2022.
CPB Contractors acknowledged the Bunurong people the Kulin Nation and the GunaiKurnai people as the traditional and continuing custodians of the lands on which the South Gippsland Highway Upgrade was delivered.
